Ahoy, crafty adventurers! Gully here, reporting in with salty sea breezes and a suitcase full of creative ideas.
Our Shipboard Shenanigans crafting cruise is on the horizon, and while the real-life voyage is still ahead, it’s never too early to start dreaming, planning, and prepping our journals. After all, half the fun is in the anticipation, right?
If you’ve just watched our latest video about the Shipboard Journal Challenge, you’ll know we’re inviting everyone to create a special journal to document the journey — from pre-sail excitement to the final homecoming.
But what goes into a travel journal, you ask? Well, let me show you what I’m packing into my trusty notebook…
1. Maps & Itineraries
Every good voyage starts with a map! I’ve tucked in a copy of our cruise route I will be sharing this so you can download your own blank version to decorate and there’s also a printed itinerary so we can jot notes about each port of call as we travel. (keep an eye out in the group)
2. Tickets & Ephemera
Even if we’re sailing from the comfort of our craft rooms, I’ll be including mock ‘tickets,’ boarding passes, and postcards. These little scraps and souvenirs make perfect tuck-ins for pockets and flaps.
3. Stamps, Stickers & Washi
I’ve gathered nautical-themed stamps, oceanic stickers, and a splash of blue and sandy-toned washi tape — all ready to anchor down photos, decorate pages, and add a splash of whimsy.
4. Journaling Prompts
Sometimes, inspiration needs a nudge. I’m tucking in a few prompts to spark my creativity along the way — things like:
-
What does your dream port of call look like?
-
Who would you love to meet on your travels?
-
What’s the most magical thing you’ve spotted on the high seas today?
(And don’t worry — I’ll be sharing some of these prompts with you during the voyage too!)
5. Photos & Sketches
There’s always room for snapshots and doodles. I’ve left spaces for Polaroid-style photos, quick sketches of ship life, and even the odd pressed flower or feather I might ‘collect.’
6. Bits & Bobs (a.k.a. Treasures)
No journal of mine would be complete without a few mysterious trinkets — an old key, a snippet of lace, a shell or two. Who knows what stories they’ll inspire?
Your Turn
So what’s going into your journal? I’d love to see! Share a peek inside your travel journal preparations in our Facebook group — you might just inspire a fellow shipmate.
Remember, this journey is all about creativity, connection and a sprinkle of shipboard mischief. Whether your journal is chunky and layered or simple and serene, it’s your story to tell.
Until next time, anchors aweigh and happy crafting!
